Helen Browning's Organic Pork now available from Ocado

Quick cook, gluten-free meatballs included in new fresh meat range

Ocado stock the complete range of Helen Browning’s Organic meat including meatballs, mince and pork fillet. All are suitable for quick cook dinners, and we have a number of recipes and cooking tips available for you in our recipe section.  The meatballs are gluten-free and unseasoned which means they are suitable for the 1 in 100 people in the UK who suffer with coeliac disease, an intolerance to gluten.

Helen Browning’s Organic speedy sausages, hot dogs and bacon are well-known to Ocado shoppers but until early 2013 its fresh pork was only available at the farm’s award winning local pub in Wiltshire. “Our business has seen a steady growth this year,” says managing director, Tim Finney. “Our native breed pigs, which live across 90 acres of Eastbrook Farm, are the cornerstone of our enterprise. Customers at our pub, The Royal Oak, enthuse about our glorious pork and, following a series of tastings, Ocado shared this enthusiasm. We are delighted that we are to start the new year with an extension of our range.”

Sales of the Helen Browning’s Organic sausages and bacon have been successful since their launch in Ocado in 2011. Ocado buyer, Lucy Fry, said, “There is a growing loyalty amongst our customers for Helen Browning’s Organic bacon and sausages, and it is wonderful that we can now offer them fresh pork from the same reliable organic brand.”

Helen Browning is recognised as a pioneer in organic farming methods, having started her business over 25 years ago before organic became a buzz word. The farm has developed the blueprint for organic pig production, and is well-known for native breed pigs, the pure British Saddleback. The distinctive orange pig on the packet makes it easy for customers to recognise the brand.

Unique flavour

Helen’s organic breeding herd of 200 sows thrive outdoors, make great mothers and produce outstanding pork. The pigs live in family groups with lots of space and clean ground. The land is free of fertilisers and chemicals, and the pigs’ diets do not contain antibiotics.

SA Gold Award

Hot Dog and Beef Sirloin Winners

Following two years of being ‘highly commended’, our Helen Browning brand organic hot dogs, have now won ‘Gold’ in the Organic Food Awards. They are amazing, we think – what hot dogs used to be like, before they were made of pig skin and old washing up lines all pulped up together! And Helen’s Beef Sirloin, also usually on the menu here, also won ‘Gold’.

Sustainable Restaurants award

Sustainable Restaurant Association gives
Helen Browning at The Royal Oak top score for good practice!

Out of about 450 restaurants, hotels and pubs, the SRA has awarded The Royal Oak Three Gold Stars for its sustainable practices. Our pub joins only three other establishments in the country in the top bracket of the SRA’s league table. They have commended our food sourcing, our healthy food on the plate, the way we treat food suppliers, our recycling and, last but not least, the care with which we try to look after customers and staff.
